As our 2013 Fall Community Outreach Project, the AWA has chosen to help the Metro Battered Women Shelter (Metropolitan Center for Women and Children). Metro offers individual and group counseling for domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking survivors. Metro also provides a children’s program, legal advocacy, and community outreach for the Greater New Orleans area. There are currently 22 women and children living at the shelter. For more information about Metro, click here.

The AWA is supporting Metro through donations of personal care and household items. Metro has established a registry with Myregistry.com, so AWA members can easily donate needed items.

AWA members can go to www.myregistry.com. In the “Find a Registry” search box, enter: metropolitan center for women. Or, you can access the registry directly by clicking here.

If you would rather give a cash donation, please send a check payable to “Metropolitan Center for Women and Children,” to our Community Outreach Chairperson, April Watson:
