Assistant Director for J.D. and Alumni Advising -Office of Career Services at Harvard Law School

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director reports to the Assistant Dean for Career Services. This position interacts extensively with highly talented students, works collaboratively with a dynamic and creative Career Services staff and is involved in the day-to-day operations of a vital and fast-paced service oriented office.  Responsibilities include the following: Provides career counseling to JD students and is the lead counselor for alumni advising; Plans, develops and implements a comprehensive series of career programs and workshops; Writes materials for office communications including office publications, the website, and blog; Serves as a liaison to student groups; and Supervises student peer advisors and interns.

Requirements:

The candidate must have a J.D., law practice experience, and three to five years of demonstrated career counseling experience.  Experience in a law school career services office, knowledge of self-assessment tools, and alternative legal and non-legal career paths is strongly preferred.  The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral presentation and writing skills, the ability to plan and meet deadlines, the ability to work independently and effectively as a team, an excellent sense of humor and an enthusiastic approach to his or her work.

Major Responsibilities of the Vice President for Resource Development:

Louisiana Capital Assistance Center - Junior Capital Attorney

The primary function of the junior capital attorney is to assist in the representation of indigent defendants facing capital charges at trial level in Louisiana.  The role also includes participation in training and consultative services as well as additional service provision as required by the office.  This position is intended for an attorney with 0-5 years experience.

This is a full time position with a 6 month probationary period and a two year minimum commitment.  A successful applicant will commence work on or about August 1, 2008.  Salary range: $38,000 to $45,000, depending on experience.  5% employer contribution to 401(k);

The Louisiana Capital Assistance Center (LCAC) is a not-for-profit law office based in New Orleans, Louisiana committed to excellence in the provision of defense services to indigent clients facing the death penalty.

The LCAC is principally a trial level office, representing indigent clients at trial level in cases throughout Louisiana.  In addition, the LCAC provides resource and consultative services to other capital trial counsel throughout Louisiana.  The LCAC is involved in the representation of a smaller number of capital defendants in post-verdict cases in Louisiana and in state or federal post-conviction in Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana.
