About us
We focus on fostering an environment in which our members feel part of a support system. We're a place you can go to with questions about the practice of law, finding the best childcare, or making a career jump (and what it's like on the other side). Through our events and educational programs, we come together to progress our field and stay together for the camaraderie.

Our story
We were founded 50 years ago by a small group of women attorneys in New Orleans who sought a better way to come together in a male-dominated field. From there, the Association for Women Attorneys was born, and now supports over 200 members and 7,000 women attorneys in Louisiana.

Our community
As a member of AWA, you’ll connect with a wonderful network of women across the legal profession through monthly luncheons, annual events, CLE seminars, and exclusive communications. From professional development to leadership opportunities, AWA provides the relationships, resources, and support to help you grow your career and expand your reach.

Our members
Our membership includes both women and men and represents every sector of the legal community — public and private practitioners in civil and criminal law; judges; professors; corporate counsel; law clerks; and law students — who regularly gather and share common experiences and goals.
the awa experience
"Because of my involvement with the Association for Women Attorneys I have gained friendships, mentors, and a community of women who genuinely want to see one another succeed.
It has been a constant source of connection and encouragement throughout my career, and I am grateful to be part of an organization that continues to support and move our profession forward!”
Our initiatives
Community Outreach
Community Outreach
Community Outreach
The Association for Women Attorneys supports organizations working to strengthen and uplift the New Orleans community. Through partnerships with groups focused on civil rights education, legal aid, recovery services, youth development, public space revitalization, and hunger relief, AWA helps expand access to critical resources across the region.
Food From The Bar
Food From the Bar
food from the Bar
In South Louisiana, 1 in 3 children experience poverty and limited access to consistent nutrition. Funds raised through the campaign directly support the Second Harvest Food Bank, helping provide meals, food access, and critical services to thousands of families across the region. Last year’s campaign raised over $30,000, and with your support, this year’s effort can go even further.
Wynne Professionalism Award
Wynne Professionalism Award
wynne professionalism Award
Every year the AWA presents the Michaelle Pitard Wynne Professionalism Award at its Annual Dinner Meeting. The award is presented to a member of the greater New Orleans legal community who exemplifies the ideals and professionalism that Magistrate Judge Wynne so capably displayed in her too short career.
