Description:

The March Luncheon will be held on March 21, 2013, noon, at Mr. B’s Bistro (201 Royal Street)

Our guest speaker will be Professor Suzanne Scalise, Academic Success Professor at Loyola Law School, who will speak on “The evolving world of legal education – how law schools are adapting to student needs.”

In addition, in honor of Women’s History Month, the AWA will honor attorney Marian Berkett on the occasion of her 100th birthday, recognizing her as a leader for women in our profession. Ms. Berkett is Of Counsel and Partner Emeritus with the firm of Deutsch Kerrigan & Stiles which she joined in August 1937 as an associate after graduating first in her class from Tulane Law School. Her practice covers such areas as Construction Law, Fidelity and Surety Law, and Successions. Judge Alvin Rubin, of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, said of her: “Her achievements as a trial lawyer are legendary. Beginning at a time when there were few, if any, women trial lawyers in the United States, she tried lawsuits with superb ability, skill, intelligence and strategy, yielding no ground to any opponent. She was a strong advocate without becoming hostile or aggressive yet ever vigilant to protect the interest of her client.”
